About the World Youth Choir
The World Youth Choir (WYC) is a remarkable artistic and social experience for young choral singers, aged 17 to 26 years old, from all over the world. With the help of the WYC patrons, our national recruiters and a local hosting organisation, a session is organised each year in a different country and up to 100 young singers gather for up to three weeks, rehearsing under the direction of renowned conductors and touring selected locations. This unique global ensemble is administered by the WYC Foundation seated in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The organisation was co-founded by the three organisation patrons of the choir: the European Choral Association - Europa Cantat (ECA-EC), the International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM), and Jeunesses Musicales International (JMI).
Every year the singers, the conductors and the locations are new, but the spirit is the same: one of intercultural understanding, high-level music and international friendship. Today the World Youth Choir is proud of its alumni, having more than 1000 singers from 75 world countries who participated in this enriching programme since 1989 and continue to cherish the impact of this experience in their development, both as musicians and as human beings. With over 1000 global ambassadors for music and intercultural understanding, the WYC Foundation aims at inspiring many more generations through the spirit and music of the World Youth Choir.
